BVI Announces New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai as First Institution in New York City and Tri-State Area to Adopt Leos – FDA-Cleared Laser Endoscopy System Offering a New Standard in Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery

• BVI’s Leos system has been used clinically for the first time at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, marking the first academic institution to acquire and utilize the system in the New York tri-state area.

• Leos is the first and only FDA-cleared laser system with advanced digital endoscopic visualization for ab interno intraocular pressure reduction.

WALTHAM, Mass., May 14, 2026 — BVI, a global ophthalmic device company, today announced that New York Eye and Ear Infirmary (NYEE) of Mount Sinai is the first eye center in New York City and the Tri-State-Area to use Leos in a clinical setting, and successfully treated one patient with the technology on May 6, 2026.

Leos is the first and only FDA-cleared digital endoscopy and laser system designed to reduce intraocular pressure through a minimally invasive ab interno approach while providing advanced visualization of the eye’s internal anatomy. Leos received FDA 510(k) clearance in April 2025.

“NYEE has long stood at the forefront of ophthalmic care, education and innovation, and we are honored that one of the world’s most respected eye institutions is among the earliest adopters of Leos,” said Jim Hollingshead, president and chief executive officer of BVI. “This milestone reflects exactly why BVI invested in Leos: to bring surgeons a modern, intuitive laser endoscopy platform that enhances visualization, supports workflow efficiency, and expands minimally invasive options for patients with glaucoma.”

“At New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai, our mission is to lead in the incorporation of advanced technologies that enhance patient care, surgical precision, and clinical education,” said James C. Tsai, MD, MBA, president of NYEE, Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology for Mount Sinai Health System. By bringing this next-generation digital endoscopy and laser platform to NYEE, we are reconfirming our commitment to offering our surgeons and patients access to innovations and devices that can help advance the future of glaucoma treatment.”

Luis Silva, MD, an ophthalmologist at NYEE who trained on Leos at the recent American Glaucoma Society meeting, performed the first Leos ECP procedure, “As a glaucoma surgeon with experience in ECP, I was pleased to witness a significant improvement in this technology, with the surgeon now taking complete control of visualization of the ciliary body processes,” Dr. Silva said. “Leos’ visualization, image stability, and intuitive controls support a more controlled surgical experience and may help surgeons approach ECP with greater confidence and consistency.”

Leos was designed to meet the evolving needs of surgeons treating a broad range of glaucoma patients, including those in earlier stages of disease, and is powered by advanced endoscopic visualization capabilities. When paired with the single use, sterile VueProbe®, the system’s advanced auto functions and workflow-focused design are intended to enhance the ECP procedure for surgeons and operating room staff while supporting integration with cataract procedures.

“Leos is an important part of BVI’s broader commitment to advancing eye surgery through practical innovation,” Hollingshead said. “Partnering with leading institutions like NYEE helps ensure that meaningful technologies reach the surgical teams who are shaping the next era of ophthalmic care.”
