Shervin brings to BVI almost three decades of general management, operational, financial, and investment experience across a diverse array of industries including healthcare, consumer products, industrial manufacturing, and financial services. Prior to BVI, Shervin was a senior executive with Swiss headquartered Novartis Group AG, one of the largest global healthcare companies, holding roles which included Global Head of Corporate Finance and several country/regional commercial roles (including in the Alcon ophthalmic division). Before Novartis, he started his career and spent 15 years with The Blackstone Group, one of the world’s leading alternative investment firms, most recently as a Managing Director with experience in both the Restructuring and Private Equity businesses. In addition, Shervin is a co-founder of Sight Sciences (Nasdaq: SGHT), a growth-stage medical device company focused on transforming glaucoma and dry eye treatment.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors of BVI (member of the Compensation Committee), Fresenius Medical Care (NYSE:FMS / DAX:FME; member of the Compensation Committee), and Hain Celestial (Nasdaq: HAIN; member of the Compensation Committee and Chair of the Strategy Committee). He is a member of the Board at the non-profit Ophthalmology Foundation, with a mission to provide ophthalmic education and a special focus on low-resource and underserved countries. In addition, Shervin serves on the Wharton Leadership Advisory Board, established by the Center for Leadership and Change Management at the University of Pennsylvania. Shervin graduated with a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Chief Financial Officer
Todd Patriacca brings more than 25 years of financial experience with an extensive background in handling complex matters including M&A, IPOs, debt and equity financing, commercial agreements, financial accounting and controls, compliance, information systems, and investor relations. Prior to BVI, Todd was Chief Financial Officer & Treasurer at Altra Industrial Motion, a publicly traded global industrial manufacturer of motion control, power transmission, and automation products with 9,000+ employees and sales in 100+ countries. He was a core member of an executive team that successfully executed a strategy to grow the business from $300 million to $2 billion in annual revenues through a combination of organic growth and strategic M&A. In addition, Todd has affiliations at the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, American Institute of Certified Public Accounts, Chartered Global Management Accountant, and Manufacturers Alliance (MAPI) CFO Council. Todd holds two Masters’s degrees in Business Administration and Science in Accounting from Boston Northeastern University.
Senior Vice President of Research and Development
Mikhail Boukhny brings over 25 years of leadership experience in Surgical Ophthalmology. Until 2018 he lead Alcon’s Surgical Instrumentation R&D in Cataract, Vitreoretinal, Refractive and Diagnostics areas. Mikhail has grown through the ranks at Alcon, developing many breakthrough products, including Torsional ultrasound and Centurion Vision System. He combines a deep understanding of unmet clinical and business needs with the ability to bring breakthrough innovation to commercial success as well as to create strong teams. Mikhail holds over 70 patents; while at Alcon he was repeatedly recognized for his accomplishments, including the prestigious Novartis VIVA award. Most recently Mikhail was leading Zeiss MediTec Surgical R&D, Ophthalmology where, in addition to equipment, he was responsible for IOLs, IOL delivery systems and OVDs. Dr. Boukhny received his M.S. in Biophysics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Virginia.
Andrew (Andy) Dawson
Chief People Officer and Head of Corporate Affairs
Andrew (Andy) Dawson brings more than 20 years of experience in human resource strategy and management with some of the world’s leading Healthcare and Biopharma companies. Mr. Dawson started his career in Human Resources with Eli Lilly and Company and continued to grow his career through progressive HR leadership roles at both Novartis and Roche around the globe, including the formation of the Vaccines and Diagnostics Business following Novartis’ acquisition of Chiron. Upon joining Shire in 2014, he played a key leadership role in re-imagining the global HR function during a significant time of transformation. While there, he helped lead the organization through significant change and growth following numerous mergers and acquisitions including the leadership of the new global site strategy following the $32bn acquisition of Baxalta, and the design and execution of the new organization design for the expanded company. Following this, Mr Dawson held roles of increasing scope and responsibility at TripAdvisor and most recently leading the Human Resources function for emerging, pre-commercial companies in the Biotech space. Mr Dawson is a member of the Forbes HR Leadership Council, serves on the advisory board(s) for LEAP HR and BioPharma Talent / CBI. Mr Dawson holds a Masters Degree in Human Resources Management and Development from the University of Salford (Manchester, UK).
Vice President, Western Europe Commercial
Raphaël Ervinckx brings a wealth of experience, with nearly 15 years in the field of sales and marketing in ophthalmology. His early career began at Alcon in Belgium and France, setting a foundation in the medical device sector. He transitioned to PhysIOL, a University Spin-off specializing in intraocular lenses (IOL) where he demonstrated exceptional leadership across various departments and geographical areas. He held roles of increasing responsibility ultimately taking on the role of Chief Sales Officer at PhysIOL. Since joining BVI in 2019 after the acquisition of PhysIOL, Raphaël took the role of Senior Director, leading the sales efforts in Western Europe. His strategic vision has played a pivotal role in shaping the success of the BVI sales team in Europe. Recognized for his contributions to the ophthalmic community, Raphaël Ervinckx has been elected as an Executive Board Member of the American-European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery (AECOS), representing the industry with distinction. He is a graduate of the Universite de Bruxelles and the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management.
Vice President, Corporate Development & General Counsel
Jean-Nicolas (“JN”) Fassin has 15 years of experience in M&A, corporate finance, strategy and law. He joined the BVI leadership team following the acquisition of PhysIOL® by BVI in late 2018. Prior to joining PhysIOL® in 2017, JN was a Senior Manager at BDO Corporate Finance in Belgium advising clients on small- and mid-sized M&A transactions, valuation and financial due diligence across various industries. He also worked as management consultant at McKinsey & Company focusing on strategy assignments and as lawyer in top tier law firms advising clients on M&A, litigation and corporate law matters. He has an MBA from London Business School, an LLM from Columbia Law School and is a graduate of Sciences Po Paris and the University of Liège, Faculty of Law.
Senior Vice President, International Commercial
Denis Hinaut brings more than 30 years of experience in sales, marketing, dealer management, and sales management in the medical field. Prior to BVI, Mr. Hinaut served as Director of International Sales and Marketing for BD Medical-Ophthalmic Systems. In 2000, he was given the task to develop and build the BD ophthalmic business in Europe. He successfully grew the European region to be the largest worldwide for BD in sales and revenue. Mr. Hinaut has a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Economics from ESC Lille, France.
Senior Vice President, Global Operations and Technology
Christine Lucas brings more than 20 years of progressive experience in global operations including manufacturing, supply chain and engineering. Serving most recent as Vice President of Operations at Zimmer Biomet Holding, Inc., where she was focused was on end-to-end global supply chain, operations excellence and new product introductions. Christine was responsible for leading the Dental business unit supply chain organization including its global distribution and manufacturing footprint. Prior to Zimmer, Christine held a variety of operating roles at Biomet 3i, Boston Scientific and King Systems. Christine earned an Associate of Science degree in Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering from the Institute Universitaire de Technologie in France and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Université de Technologie in Compiègne, France.
Vice President, US Commercial
Megan Robinson, a leader in medical sales, has a proven track record of driving transformative change and revitalizing sales teams. Prior to her current role, she was the Director of the West Region in the US earning accolades, including the 2022 Director of the Year and the Global Energy Booster Award. Before BVI, she spent over a decade in sales in the Aesthetic medical device sector which included sales manager roles with Lumenis and country manager role with Venus Concepts. As Country Manager in Australia, she led Venus Concept’s resurgence, transitioning from distributor to direct, navigating cultural nuances, and establishing a robust market presence. Megan started her career at Miller Coors, leading new markets launches with craft beer, showcasing innovative strategies. She received her BS in Business Marketing from the Montana State University.
Devang V. Shah, Ph.D.
Senior Vice President, Business Operations and Quality Assurance
Devang Shah brings to BVI over 15 years of experience building and leading teams in medical device R&D, Strategy and Business Development. Throughout his tenure at Bard, Devang held roles of increasing responsibility focused on creating and executing against product development pipelines that addressed significant unmet clinical needs and delivered organic revenue growth. While co-leading Bard’s Tissue Regeneration Franchise, Devang and his team supported the development and commercial launch of innovative new product lines which have generated organic revenues of >$100 million. His career began at Boston Scientific as a Consultant in the Urology & Women’s Health Division. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute followed by a Master of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from Tufts University. He subsequently earned a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Northeastern University and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
Vice President, Co-Head Global Marketing
Aimee Shimamoto is a seasoned professional in ophthalmic commercial sales and marketing, excelling in leading cross-functional teams behind her over two decades of experience. Prior to her current role, Aimee was the Senior Director of Marketing for the Americas and Japan at BVI. She started in sales at Johnson and Johnson, rapidly advancing, playing pivotal roles in leadership development, training, and marketing. Subsequently within the ophthalmic MedTech sector, she held sales and marketing roles with Inspire Pharma and Staar Surgical. She then joined AMO initially as a sales leader and then as a market development and patient engagement leader. Aimee brings an unwavering customer-focused commitment driving business initiatives tailored to address unmet customer needs. She received her BS from UCLA graduating with distinction.
Vice President, Co-Head Global Marketing
Warwick Strand brings more than 20 years of product strategy experience within the ophthalmology industry both in marketing and engineering. He has significant experience in designing, developing, and launching innovative ophthalmic products globally. Prior to his current role, Warwick was the Senior Director of Global Marketing for the company’s IOL portfolio. Before BVI, Warwick was the Vice President of Global Marketing at Rayner where he was instrumental in building a marketing-led business to deliver more than 10 new product launches and integrate 3 strategic acquisitions. After completing a MEng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nottingham, Warwick went on to undertake the Rolls Royce graduate program in aeronautical engineering. In 2002, he moved into the Ophthalmic industry with Duckworth and Kent concentrating on marketing new medical device concepts and worked on numerous innovative joint projects alongside Abbott (now Johnson & Johnson) and Zeiss.
