WALTHAM, Mass., July 30, 2026 — BVI, a leading ophthalmic device company, announced that Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, part of UHealth – the University of Miami Health System and the Miller School of Medicine, performed the institution’s first implantation of the FDA-approved FINEVISION HP trifocal intraocular lens (IOL). The procedure marks a milestone in the continued U.S. adoption of one of the most established trifocal platforms in global cataract surgery.

FINEVISION HP received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in October 2025. First introduced internationally more than 15 years ago, the platform has been used in millions of implantations worldwide and contributes to the ongoing evolution of refractive cataract surgery.

“Patient expectations surrounding cataract surgery continue to evolve, particularly as more individuals seek greater visual functionality across multiple distances following surgery,” said Florence Anne Sophie Cabot, M.D., assistant professor of clinical ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. “The continued availability of presbyopia-correcting technologies provides surgeons with additional considerations when tailoring surgical approaches to individual patient needs.”

FINEVISION HP incorporates BVI’s proprietary POD platform and CoPODize diffractive optical design technology. The lens was designed to distribute light across distance, intermediate and near focal points while maintaining the optical principles established in the original FINEVISION platform. The platform also features a double C-loop haptic design intended to support lens stability within the capsular bag.
